WINTER STORM JAYDEN DISRUPTING AIR AND LAND TRANSPORTATION IN THE U.S.

A winter storm has brought snow, extreme temperatures, and high winds throughout the Midwest and Northeast United States over the past 5 days. Over 13 inches of snow fell in parts of New York, while five inches of snow was reported in the Chicago area. Winds were reported as high and 60-70 mph in parts of the Midwest. Meanwhile, as a result of a polar vortex, temperatures have reached as low as minus 40 and minus 56 Fahrenheit in parts of the Midwest.

The combination of wind, precipitation, and poor visibility have caused hazardous driving conditions in a large portion of the country.

As of 4:00pm Eastern Time, there were 2,322 flight cancellations and 2,729 delays in the United States on Thursday. The largest numbers of cancelations were at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, where over half of all inbound and outbound flights were canceled Thursday. Major disruptions were also reported at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
