It has been just over a week since the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which forced the closing of the Port of Baltimore channel and blocked vessel movements to and from the port. Large sections of the bridge are still in the water blocking the entrance to the harbor. Debris removal efforts are underway. Sections of the waterway have been cleared for tugs and emergency equipment. It is unclear though how long it will take for the channel to be open for cargo vessel traffic, though it is expected to be at least several weeks.
Carriers have already begun diverting cargo to other ports – namely New York, Norfolk, and Philadelphia.
We are actively working with clients on alternate routing options and diversion contingencies. Our priority during this challenging period is keeping our clients informed of their options and to assist them in keeping their supply chains stable.
